24 July 2025

On 24 July, RAR Australia wrote to Minister Burke urging the Australian Government to immediately restore work rights to people living on insecure visas.

This group of people and their families within the 'Fast Track' cohort, many living and working in Australia for over 10 years, have lost their right to work while applying for permanency, due to government processing delays and the need for Ministerial intervention.

These already vulnerable people are now unable to financially support themselves and their families, increasing the hardship and suffering of men, women and children, who are struggling to survive in communities across Australia.

RAR has also asked for clarity about the current process and timeline for refugees living on insecure visas to apply for permanency.
