Evacuate people from PNG and Nauru now!
Please add your voice to our ongoing efforts to pressure the Australian Government to end the cruel and unjust treatment of refugees on PNG and Nauru.
We are calling on the Australian government to urgently bring all refugees remaining in Papua New Guinea and Nauru to Australia.
We are also asking the Australian government to immediately end these cruel offshoring policies which have been in place since 2012 (Nauru) and 2013 (PNG).
Since then, thousands of people have been condemned to uncertainty and danger, with devastating health consequences.
The Medevac Bill (2019) was an important milestone in allowing many of these refugees to come to Australia to access urgent and life-saving medical care..
However, many people are still trapped on PNG without suitable care or support.
Alarmingly, the Australian government has again started transferring refugees to Nauru detention centre, with roughly 100 people trapped there currently.
Unfortunately, instead of ending the use of PNG and Nauru for the processing and detention of asylum seekers, the three new migration bill laws introduced last November mean the Government can expand its use of Nauru (and potentially PNG and other third countries). This includes the possibility of indefinitely warehousing refugees, asylum seekers and other non-citizens who cannot be deported to their home countries.
The refugee sector has been speaking out about this for many years. Please help us to continue to maintain pressure on the government for these cruel policies to end. Every voice counts!
Thank you for your fantastic action - please keep it up!
